Florence Futures
Project: Green improvements in the neighborhoods which surround OPPD’s North Omaha Station
Overview:
Florence Futures' Green 30 project contemplates key improvements in this area which will increase walkability to popular historic sites and public parks, provide a gateway to Omaha’s best bike trails, and encourage public transit use on one of the most popular METRO routes.
The Green 30 project will accomplish this through improvements to long-neglected bus shelters, installation of specific bike infrastructure and additional targeted beautification to increase walkability. The project focuses on a portion of 30th Street beginning at Miller Park and ending at Florence, as discussed in detail below.
The three groups that will benefit from this project are OPPD employees and contractors involved with the North Omaha Station, community members living in this area, and residents of Omaha who want access to more walkable attractions.
Benefits:
•Reduce emissions and energy use
•Bring together people working at OPPD North, the community and Greater Omaha
•Greater access to year round public attractions
•Increased use of public spaces, increased neighborhood identity, and a higher quality of life for residents, workers, and visitors alike
